MRI for Hand, Fingers & Thumb (Procedures) - Video Lesson

Hey everyone, welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the hand, fingers and thumb. In this lesson, we will discuss patient setup and slice positioning, indications for this exam, and discuss an imaging challenge associated with this study. Let's get started. An MRI of the hand, fingers, or thumb can help evaluate the ligaments, bony structures, tendons, and pulley systems. Some common indications for these studies include pain, ligament or tendon tears, pulley injuries, arthritis and bone or soft tissue lesions. Prior to beginning the study, it is important to get an accurate and thorough patient history to aid the radiologist in diagnosis. Let's take a look at the patient setup for this exam. Patients needing a hand, finger or thumb scan will be positioned on the MR table head first prone with the affected arm extended forward.
