MRI for Ankle (Procedures) - Video Lesson

Hey everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the ankle. In this lesson we will discuss patient setup and slice positioning, indications for this exam, MRI anatomy, and discuss some imaging challenges associated with this study. Let's get started. An MRI of the ankle can help evaluate many conditions affecting the soft tissues or bony structures. Some common indications for this study include ligament or tendon injuries, joint inflammation or instability, impingement syndromes, unexplained pain, and tumors or masses. It is important to get an accurate patient history and specific areas of pain to note for the radiologist. Let's take a look at the patient setup for this exam. Patients needing an ankle scan will be positioned on the MR table, feet first, supine. A pillow should be placed under the head to aid in patient comfort. The call ball should be given to the patient to use if they need to contact the technologist.
