MRI for Elbow (Procedures) - Video Lesson

Hey everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the elbow. In this lesson, we will discuss patient setup and slice positioning. Indications for this exam, MRI anatomy, and discuss some imaging challenges associated with this study. Let's get started. An MRI of the elbow can help provide diagnostic information when patient symptoms persist after routine imaging or treatment. Some common indications for this study include ligament or tendon injuries, joint pain or swelling, soft tissue injuries or masses, infections, and sports injuries like tennis or golfer's elbow. Prior to beginning the study, it is important to get an accurate and thorough patient history to aid the radiologist in diagnosis. Let's take a look at the patient setup for this exam. Patients needing an elbow scan will be positioned on the MR table head first prone with the affected arm extended forward with the palm up.
