Hey everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on perfusion brain studies in MRI. In this lesson, we will discuss what perfusion is, common indications, the patient set up and protocol and post processing. Let's get started. Perfusion is defined as the volume of blood that flows into one gram of tissue. These studies can provide information regarding tissue activity, and the quality of vascular supply to a particular area. Two common indications for a brain perfusion study are for the assessment of strokes and the evaluation of brain tumors. When used for strokes, a perfusion can identify areas of the brain with reduced blood flow for ischemic strokes, or areas of infarction for acute strokes. This helps physicians differentiate irreversibly damaged tissue from salvageable tissue. For tumors, a perfusion study can help determine the tumor type through evaluation of the vascularity of the tumor. It can also differentiate radiation necrosis from
