MRI for Soft Tissue Neck (Procedures) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the soft tissue neck. In this lesson, we will discuss the basic anatomy of these structures, look at patient and slice setup, MRI anatomy, and discuss some imaging challenges associated with this study. A soft tissue neck study is often associated with the pharynx and glands in the area of the pharynx. The pharynx leads from the nasal and oral cavities to the larynx and esophagus. It is further named by location, from superior to inferior. These are the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. The salivary glands produce and excrete saliva. There are three pairs of glands which include the parotid, which is the largest, submandibular, which is the second largest, and sublingual, which is the smallest. The thyroid gland can also be an indication for a soft tissue neck study. The thyroid is part of the endocrine system and secretes hormones.
