Shim System - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on instrumentation in MRI. In this lesson, we will explore the critical role of the shim system in magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, why a homogeneous magnetic field is essential, the shimming procedure, and the different types of shimming techniques. The shim system in an MRI machine is pivotal for adjusting the main magnetic field within the scanner. Its primary function is to correct inhomogeneities or irregularities in the magnetic field, ensuring that the field is as uniform as possible across the inside of the bore, which is called the imaging volume. This uniformity is crucial for acquiring high quality diagnostic images. Remember, a homogeneous magnetic field is ideal in MRI for several reasons. One, image clarity and accuracy. Uniform magnetic fields produce clear and precise image.
