MRI Patient Specific Factors: Pregnant and Pediatric Patients - Video Lesson

Hey everybody! Welcome back to today's lesson about MRI safety. This lesson focuses on safety considerations for unique patient populations. Understanding these concepts is essential because MRI is not a one size fits all procedure. Each patient brings unique challenges and it is our responsibility as technologists to anticipate risks, adapt protocols, and ensure safety while obtaining diagnostic quality images. Throughout your career, you'll be expected to conduct MRI exams for many different patient populations. This lesson will focus on pregnant and pediatric patients. Let's take a look at each group and discuss the special considerations needed to conduct a safe exam. We'll start with pregnant patients. Pregnancy requires heightened caution. While MRI itself is not associated with ionizing radiation, concerns remain about tissue heating from radiofrequency energy and acoustic noise exposure for the developing fetus.
