Medication Orders - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on medication orders in patient care. Understanding the types of medication orders and their components is crucial for ensuring patient safety and effective treatment. Prescriptions are often referred to as orders in clinical settings, and there are several different types of orders. We will be discussing routine orders, PRN orders, standing orders, one time orders, stat orders, tapering orders, and titration orders. A routine order is a prescription that is followed until another order cancels it. In other words, a routine order indicates medication to be given on a regular schedule until another prescription is written or the doctor discontinues use. For example, a patient with hypertension may have a routine order for lisinopril taken once daily. A pro renata or p r n order is a prescription for a medication to be administered as needed.
