Abdomen Sonography: Liver Anatomy - Video Lesson

Hey everyone, welcome to today's lesson on the anatomy and physiology of the liver. In this video, we'll cover the liver's location and its key relationships within the abdominal cavity, its internal anatomy including segments, fissures, and ligaments, and the vascular structures associated with the liver. Let's dive in! The liver is primarily a right upper quadrant organ, but it spans several abdominal regions including the right hypochondrium, epigastrium, and part of the left hypochondrium. Its superior border is the diaphragm and most of the liver sits tucked beneath the right ribs. The liver is considered a peritoneal organ since it's mostly covered by a peritoneum. One exception, however, is the bare area, a small portion on the superior surface where the liver directly contacts the diaphragm without peritoneal covering. It's covered in a connective tissue called Glisson's capsule.
