Hey everyone and welcome back to our series on abdominal extended sonography. In today's lesson, we'll focus on the sonographic evaluation of the normal breast. We'll cover breast anatomy, physiology, and scanning techniques with a focus on identifying normal sonographic features and proper documentation methods. Let's get started. The breast is located on the anterior chest wall, extending vertically from the second to sixth rib and horizontally from the sternum to the mid axillary line. It's often divided into four quadrants and a central region behind the nipple and areola. Internally, the breast has three main layers. First, the subcutaneous fat layer just beneath the skin. The second is the mammary layer, which contains glandular and ductal structures.
