Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This video is about the auto transformer. The auto transformer is the first of three types of transformers in the x-ray circuit, along with the step up transformer and the step down transformer. All of these transformers have the same basic function to increase or decrease the voltage based on the needs of the device. In a step up transformer, the voltage is increased. And at the same time, the amperage is decreased. A step down transformer does just the opposite. It decreases or steps down the voltage. And at the same time, increases the amperage. What's really cool about auto transformers is they can increase or decrease both the voltage and the amperage. In other words, an auto transformer can be both a step up or a step down transformer.
