CT Temporal Bones - Video Lesson

This CT protocol review is about the temporal bones. There's a few reasons that we would scan just the temporal bones. Examples would be pain in the inner ear, ataxia, which is a loss of coordination that can be caused by changes in the inner ear, and then also hearing loss. There's several potential reasons for hearing loss, and some of those reasons might be structural in nature. And so a scan of the internal auditory canal and the surrounding temporal bones can help to identify those causes. A CT of the temporal bones is designed to identify very, very tiny changes in the inner ear and the surrounding structures. Because of that, the slice thickness and slice interval needs to be very, very small. The slice thickness is often going to be as thin as zero point six two five millimeters, and the interval is often going to be less than that, such as zero point three
