Welcome back. This lesson is about a CT image acquisition variable that we call pitch. Pitches a fairly complicated idea, and unfortunately, the definition probably won't answer all of your questions. Pitch is defined as the ratio of table movement to the beam width, and pitch only applies to helical scanning. And here's why. These are illustrations of each CT scan type. And with helical scanning, as we see to the left, The path of the x-ray beam and detectors around the patient forms the shape of a spiral. The reason we see the shape of a spiral or a helix is because the patient is moving during the actual exposure.
