Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about filtration measurements in radiography. Remember that filtration is the process that removes low energy photons from the X-ray beam and decreases patient dose. The main purpose is to decrease patient dose. Filtration includes inherent filtration, built into the construction of the tube, such as the glass and the envelope, plus the added filtration, which is aluminum plates added to the collimator housing, which together equals the total filtration of the system. The total filtration has to be measured. One way to measure this is the millimeters of aluminum or millimeters of aluminum equivalents. Here's what that means.
