Beam Quality II - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. In this video, we're talking about filtration. Another factor that influences the quality or energy of the X-ray beam. Remember, beam quality first to the average energy of the X-ray beam. An X-ray beam is made of millions of photons, and they have varying levels of energy measured in kilo tron volts or KEV filtration is used to filter out the lower energy photons that would otherwise add to the patient's skin dose without adding any information to the image. Removing these low energy photons has the effect of increasing the beam quality the average energy. It's important to remember that beam quality is influenced by just two exposure factors, the KVP and the filtration. It is in no way affected by the other exposure factors, like the MA, the time, the distance, or anything else
