Upper Airway: Radiographic Anatomy - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on radiographic anatomy of the upper airway. In a previous lesson, we discussed the anatomy of the upper airway and which radiographic projections are routinely performed. So let's tie that information to the radiographs themselves. As a reminder, the routine radiographic projections of the upper airway are lateral and AP. Take a look at this radiograph. What projection is being demonstrated? How do you know? Let's see how you did. The answer here is the lateral soft tissue neck. While some people might feel this was easy to identify, how can we be sure it is a soft tissue neck and not a lateral cervical spine? Let's dig a little deeper. For a lateral soft tissue neck, the airway is centered to the image receptor, which is much more anterior than the centering for a cervical spine. There are also more facial
