Fluoroscopy Flat Panel Detectors I - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. In this lesson, we discuss flat panel detectors, their components and how they compare to image intensifiers. It is important to understand these concepts as flat panel detectors function differently than image intensifiers and have an impact on patient dose. In fluoroscopy, a flat panel detector is used to capture real time images of the internal structures of the body. Flat panel detectors can be found in both RF rooms, and on c arms. The components of a flat panel detector are a scintillating layer made of cesium iodide or gadolinium, A photo diode layer made of amorphous silicon and a thin film transistor or TFT array. You'll notice that flat panel detectors have the same components as an indirect digital radiography system. X rays strike the scintillating layer which converts the X rays
