Digits of the Hand: Anatomy & Routine Projections - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on the gross anatomy and routine radiographic projections of the digits of the hand. This essential topic forms the foundation for accurate imaging and diagnosis of conditions related to the digits. In this lesson, we'll cover appropriate medical terminology, the anatomy of the first through fifth digits, and routine projections for radiographs. Let's get started. For this lesson, we will need to know some anatomical terms. Phalanges, the bones of the fingers and thumb. Metacarpals, the bones of the palm. Interphalangeal or IP joints, the joints between the phalanges, also the only phalangeal joint of the first digit. Distal interphalangeal or DIP joints, the joints between the distal and middle phalanges of digits two through five. Proximal interphalangeal or PIP joints, the joints between the middle and proximal phalanges of digits two through five.
