Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson about the basic principles of MRI. This lesson focuses on phase and its role in creating the MRI image. Understanding phase is important as phase and frequency work together during a scan sequence to help create clear diagnostic images. Let's begin by defining phase. Phase refers to the position of magnetic moments on their precessional path at any given point in time. Remember, when exposed to an external magnetic field, the magnetic moments of MR active nuclei will precess or wobble around the magnetic field. The precessional path is the route the magnetic moment takes around the axis, and phase is the position of the magnetic moment on their path.
