It is important to understand what the term patient's bill of rights means as it affects your daily interactions with patients and informs your understanding of their expectations for care. The patient's bill of rights is based on a document the American Hospital Association or AHA, introduced in the early nineteen seventies and revised in two thousand three that outlines the expectations patients should have for information about their health care, communication with their physicians, treatment, and medical records. This information must be provided in a language the patient understands meaning if a patient speaks Spanish as their first language, their health care information should be provided in Spanish.
