In this lesson, we will discuss patient setup and slice positioning, indications for this exam, MRI anatomy, and discuss some imaging challenges associated with this study. Let's get started. An MRI of the lumbar plexus is used to assess the nerve roots of the lower back. Nerve plexuses provide sensory and motor information and are comprised of a complex web of nerve fibers. The largest nerve of the lumbar plexus is the femoral nerve. Common indications include leg pain, sacral or coccyx pain, trauma, tumors or masses, neuropathy, and surgical or treatment planning.
