Shielding - Video Lesson
Welcome back in this lesson. We'll be discussing shielding techniques used in CT imaging. There's actually multiple kinds of shielding materials available for use in CT, and obviously the most common is lead shielding. Traditional lead shields can be used to protect the sensitive parts of the patient, but there are a few rules keep in mind. Lead shielding is really used to protect the sensitive parts of the patient. So whenever possible, we should shield the patient's thyroid whenever possible, we should also shield three hundred and sixty degrees around the torso. The thing to keep in mind here is that the patient is being exposed in three hundred and sixty degrees, not just in the front, not just in the back, but in every direction. So when we're able shield the patient's chest, abdomen, or pelvis, we should shield them both in the front and in the back all the way around the patient. The other thing to keep in mind is that we can never place lead shielding inside of the scan field. If we leave lead shielding inside of the scan field during the procedure, that's going to result in an enormous amount
