Overview of Pathology - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. This lesson is an overview of sectional imaging pathology. We'll especially be looking at the basic pathological processes that we can image in specialty imaging modalities. So let's start with some terminology. The first term we should understand is tumor. A tumor is very simple. It's an abnormal growth of tissue. That's all it is. It can be malignant or it can be benign. Sometimes we call a tumor, a neoplasm. A malignant tumor is one that's cancerous. A benign tumor is one that is not cancerous. Here's a few examples. The image to the left is a coronal MRI of the brain, and it shows a benign tumor there on the superior aspect of the rebrum. This tumor is actually called a meningioma. And even though it's very destructive and very dangerous to the patient, it is benign. Which means it cannot spread to other parts of the body. On the other hand, the image to the right, this is what
