Abdomen Sonography: Urinary Vascular Pathologies and Abnormalities - Video Lesson
Hey everybody. In today's abdominal ultrasound lesson, we are looking at specific vascular pathologies and abnormalities of the urinary system. We'll compare normal versus abnormal Doppler patterns within the kidney, in addition to some potential complications following renal transplants. Let's get started. The kidneys are highly vascular organs receiving nearly twenty percent of cardiac output. Because of this, their function depends heavily on healthy blood flow through both the renal arteries and veins. When vascular abnormalities occur, they can lead to hypertension, impaired renal function, or even renal failure. Ultrasound with Doppler is a primary non invasive tool to evaluate these vascular conditions. A healthy renal artery demonstrates a low resistance waveform with rapid systolic upstroke, continuous forward diastolic flow, and relatively high end diastolic velocity. In a normal renal artery,
