Abdomen Sonography: Postsurgical Breast Abnormalities - Video Lesson
Hey everybody and welcome back to our abdominal extended ultrasound series. Today we'll look at some potential abnormalities found after breast surgery or interventional procedures. After breast surgery, ultrasound plays a key role in distinguishing normal post operative changes from potential complications or recurrent disease. Understanding how normal healing appears sonographically helps prevent misinterpretation and ensures that new or suspicious findings are recognized early. Let's begin with a common breast procedure called a lumpectomy. This is a breast conserving surgical procedure in which only the tumor and a small margin of surrounding normal tissue are removed while the rest of the breast remains intact. This is typically performed for early stage breast cancer or for diagnostic excision of suspicious lesions. During a lumpectomy a small metallic marker clip is often placed at the surgical site to mark the area where the tissue was removed.
