Magnetization Transfer Contrast (MTC) - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on MRI contrast. This lesson focuses on a specialized contrast mechanism called magnetization transfer contrast or MTC. This lesson discusses what MTC is, the contrast mechanisms it uses, and in what circumstances it is beneficial to use MTC. Magnetization transfer contrast or MTC is an MRI technique that uses the interaction between bound and free protons to enhance image contrast. In the human body, protons exist in different environments. Some are bound to large macromolecules and structures, while others are in free water. Bound protons have restricted motion and shorter relaxation times. The restricted motion means they have a different precessional frequency than free protons. Free protons on the other hand move
